i watched this, and am not surprised that Pope Blessed Pius IX [1846-78] would do this, whether or not, any Italians were in Ire. Any ole who, I couldn’t see if anyone answered your question about the “Triduum” so here goes. The Tridium [obviously 3 full days] starts on Maundy Thursday evening, to Good Friday, Holy Saturday, on to Easter morning. Each has special services or a Mass. Only Good Friday has no Mass, only a “service” in honor of Christ’s Crucifixion. Catholics are “required to” go to convession & Mass, to receive communion. during this time – & to Penticost..
