My husband’s grandfather followed his brothers to the coal mines in Carbondale, PA, He died of Black Lung – only 27 years after arriving in NYC. I don’t know about his 3 brothers who also worked at those mines. It was said “scouters” grabbed Italians & others as they disembarked from the ships.
