In the later part of the 1800’s the Comune of Caserta listed its abandoned and illegitimate babies in Parte II of the Birth Acts. They also chose a letter for the year and invented surnames for the foundlings beginning with that letter. For example 1884 was ‘D’. Also in Parte II are the babies recognized by only one parent who are therefore considered illegitimate. So, if you are not finding your ancestor in the right year you might want to check Parte II for the other years.
